Florian Baumann + Isabell Bullerschen
NATURA OPERANS, 2018
VR experience for HTC Vive
NATURA OPERANS is a site-specific Mixed Reality Installation based on the four temperament theory derived from humoralism. In this, the human personality is divided into four temperaments: phlegmatic, melancholic, choleric and sanguine. According to this ancient concept, the following combinations of qualities are associated with these personality types: cold/wet, cold/dry, hot/humid and hot/dry. The installation in the real environment contains indicators to measure these qualities. In the virtual space (that is based on a 360° image of the exhibition space) these elements appear as well and what is only imagined in the real space is made visible and tangible here: the temperament of the space.
NATURA OPERANS was shown as a Mixed Reality Installation at Spieglerey, Dynamo Zürich and as Virtual Reality Installation at Volumes Art Publishing Fair, Kunsthalle Zürich.
Collaborator Mixed Reality Installation: Félicia Eisenring

ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Florian Baumann ( *1986 in Basel / CH) and Isabell Bullerschen (* 1985 in Simmern / D) live and work in Zurich and have been collaborating since 2018.
Driven by the romantic idea of discovering and exploring a parallel unknown where the exchange of consciousness is possible, they realise installations, videos and VR experiences that question, mix and blur different concepts of truth. Their works are characterised by both a theoretical and playful approach to the material and focus on discourses of transgression, the posthuman eye, the macabre/obscure and the grotesque. By creating intense visuals and intricate experiences, it is not their aim to give answers but to challenge and confuse the traditional ways of perception.
Florian Baumann studied media sciences and art history at the University of Basel. In his private studies, he learned animation and VFX and has been working as a 3D artist for 10 years.
Isabell Bullerschen studied Communication in Social and Economic Contexts at the Berlin University of the Arts, and Photography & Video at the School of Visual Arts in New York. She graduated in 2017 with a Master Fine Arts degree from the Zurich University of the Arts.
